About South Jersey Rod Benders
Our Mission
South Jersey Rod Benders consists of a group of friends/anglers with one common goal in mind - to improve our abilities as anglers in this sport that we mutually enjoy. Our tournaments are held in a way that fosters fun and friendly competition among one-another, while keeping that goal of improving our angling skills in mind.
How Our Club Works
SJ Rod Benders' tournaments are held in a relaxed climate and can be viewed as a mix between competitive fishing and fun fishing. Our tournaments normally consist of 12-20 anglers (6-10 boats/teams). We operate as a buddy format, which means that each boat is a team of two anglers (you can fish solo if you prefer) and is competing against the other boats on the water that day. Our club consists of anglers fishing from a range of different boats including aluminum jon boats, aluminum bass boats, and fiberglass bass boats. As our club has grown, we have begun fishing larger bodies of water that allow outboard motors. However, we will continue to try to fish waters that allow easy, safe, and effective fishing access for the smaller boats as well.
Yearly membership dues are $20 per person, which goes towards year end prizes as well as any new equipment that the club may need. Tournament entry fee is $30 per team ($15 per angler if fishing as a team of two), of which $5 per team goes toward the lunker pool, and the remaining $25 is split 60/40 for 1st and 2nd place.
Tournament schedule for the year is listed on our schedule page. We fish tournaments with a 5 fish limit per team, meaning that your team's five best bass of the day will count towards your final weigh-in. At the end of a tournament, all boats will return to the launch ramp and begin pulling out of the lake. Once all boats are trailered, we weigh each team's catch; award prizes; and discuss the day's fishing, exchanging tips, advice, and lessons learned from that day on the water.
